All-on-6 dental implants: the best option to restore your smile!
The All-on-6 dental implants is the ideal solution for people who have lost all of their teeth, due to aging or periodontal desease. Here everyhting you need to know about this modern technique!
What is the All-on-6 technique?
The All-on-6 is a permanent dental prosthetics procedure that replace all the missing teeth in an upper or lower jaw with six dental implants. It allows the full rehabilitation of a dental arch which is the best solution to restore a natural, aesthetically pleasing appearance and function to your smile and mastication over the long term.
This solution is perfect for patients who have lost most, if not all of their teeth, and suffer from their loose dentures. It mostly concerns patients suffering from periodontal disease, cavities, congenital problems or following an accident. It is also a solution advised to patients showing advanced deterioration of many of their teeth.
Thanks to an All-on-6 dental implants solution, patient benefit from perfectly aligned and strong teeth. It gives a natural looking result, tailored to enhance someone’s face stucture and give an attractive smile. Additionally to being aesthetically pleasing, it also acts like natural teeth. It is a stable and durable solution overtime. It stays permanently fixed in place, allowing patients to comfortably bite.

How does it work?
As its name indicates, the All-on-6 solution relies on the placement of 6 dental implants. These dental implants are placed under the gum and in the jawbone to allow a full integration and a stable support. They are evenly distributed along the jawline and at certain angle so that the masticatory thrust is well balanced along the entire length of the prosthesis. This will serve as a solid foundation to support a fixed denture, working as an acnhor.
More precisely, this denture is composed of a pink acrylic base, covering the gums, and a full bridge so a set of 10 to 12 teeth (bridge) covering the roof of your mouth. The teeth can be done in ceramic or porcelain, on request.
The steps of the procedure:
- 1st step: Extraction of the teeth
- 2nd step: Placement of the 6 implants
- 3rd step: Creation of a temporary prosthesis
- 4th step: Placement of the defenitive prosthesis
Why is All-on-6 dental implants the best solution for you?
✅ Affordable solution
As it only requires 6 dental implants to be placed, and a dental prosthesis to be fixed onto them, it is way cheaper than placing 16 dental implants. The more dental implants you get, the pricier it’s going to be.
✅ Natural result
Getting an All-on-6 dental implants treatment gives a natural result, with an aesthetically pleasing smile. The crowns match the colour and the form of natural teeth. The denture also allows the bridge to merge with the natural colour of the gum.
✅ Efficient chewing capacity
By their strategic placement in the jawbone, the implants offer a strong support. It gives an efficient chewing confort which does not limit the food that a patient can have: from hot to hard food!
✅ Durable
The main advantage of the All-on-6 is its ability to provide a durable solution overtime. By following a good hygiene routine, it can last all your life, with no need to replace it often, unlike dentures. Moreover, it is resistant to cavities and bacteria, and cause no sensitivity problems.
✅ Fixed solution
Unlike dentures, the All-on-6 treatment is fixed: it does not require the use of adhesives, does not move and does not deteriorate over the years.
✅ Prevents bone loss
Above all, the All-on-6 changes the organic tooth origins which prevents jawbone deterioration. It is a phenomenon that occurs when there are no natural or artificial tooth roots.
✅ Easy to clean
An All-on-6 solution requires the same care and cleaning than natural tooth, as to say brushing your teeth 2 times a day minimum, using mouthwash and flossing daily. You also need to do the usual annual check-up to the dentist.
What are the alternatives to the All-on-6 dental implants solution?
All-on-8 and All-on-10
Similar to the All-on-6, the All-on-8 and All-on-10 are good alternatives to the All-on-6 dental implants solution. As their name indicates, these solutions rely on 8 and 10 implants instead of 6. In some cases, 8 or 10 implants can be more suitable. To make sure which solution is best for you, get in touch with your dentist for a diagnosis.
All-on-4
For a more affordable solution, patients easily tend to go for an All-on-4 solution. However, it is not the best option as the set of teeth only relies on 4 dental implants. During chewing, forces are exerted on the teeth, which can affect the stability of the implants as it’s only 4 of them. For the same reasons, risks of failure are higher compared to an All-on-6 dental implants solution where there is no such risks.
Addtionally, the All-on-4 doesn’t include a denture with the acrylic base covering the gums. It is then easier for the food residues to seep under the bridge and cause oral hygiene issues.
Overall, the All-on-4 solution is not recommended by our team of dental surgeon because of the many disadvantages and risks presented above. At the El Cedro Barcelona dental clinic we only work with All-on-6 and All-on-8 solutions, which are more suitable for our patients on a long term basis, whilst being affordable.

Q&A
Can you get a decay on a dental implant?
The materials that make up an implant are not susceptible to the bacteria that cause cavities! However, gum and bone are very sensitive to bacteria. If too many bacteria accumulate around an implant, peri-implantitis can occur (bone degradation leading to the loss of the implant). Visit your dentist regularly and practise good dental hygiene to prevent any possible risks!
